La Sombra de Los Perros Romanticos, (Paperback)

A boy is born into a humble Chilean family. Half a century later, far from his homeland, he would die having become one of the most influential writers in the Spanish language. Spanning these two extremes unfolds a life defined by exile, rebellion, precariousness, and -- above all -- an boundless love for literature. In *La sombra de los perros románticos*, Jose Serralvo reconstructs the biography of Roberto Bolaño with both narrative flair and documentary rigor. Drawing upon established sources and previously unpublished materials, this book pieces together the forging of a literary myth and the wandering life that sustained it -- from his childhood in Valparaíso and Quilpué to the founding of Infrarrealism in the turbulent Mexico of the 1970s; from the prisons of the Pinochet dictatorship to his wanderings across various corners of Catalonia. It is a vibrant chronicle of his ascent to the pinnacle of the contemporary literary canon. This is not merely the story of a writer; it is the portrait of a turbulent era, of a generation marked by both utopian dreams and crushing defeats, and of a man who transformed his entire life -- its moments of brilliance and its abysses alike -- into the raw material with which to weave his fictions.
